Where do I begin? This past year has been so hard on us. This blog is new, so I'm sure most of you reading this have no idea the turmoil my husband and I have been through.
First off, he is a disabled combat vet. We met a few years ago when he hired me to train his service dog. His disability worsened towards the end of last year and he was forced to leave his job. My dog training income was not enough to get us through, so we ended up homeless. We actually spent Thanksgiving and Christmas homeless. It was very hard. Especially with our two kids, one a baby and the older with Spina Bifida.
In January, while we were waiting for the VA to get his disability paperwork pushed through, his service dog was diagnosed with a form of elbow displays. He had to have a major surgery and then become retired.
Shortly after Heinrich had his surgery, Stephen was diagnosed with a condition with his heart. We were told this was a simple fix, though the problem was worse than what they usually see. When they went in to fix it, the repair didn't take and he ended up having to have emergency open heart surgery the same day. The doctors literally pulled me down into the OR and let me say goodbye before they put him back under. He was inches from death. He made a full recovery, though a slow process, he is getting better every day.
We went online to look at cruises for our honeymoon "one of these days" He decided to check Disney's military discount and found a cruise we could afford and it was only a month away! We set sail June 6th (less than 4 months post op) and had a weeklong trip through the Eastern Caribbean. It was amazing.
I can honestly say that after going on a Disney cruise, I will never go with another cruise line. The people were so incredibly nice, they took better care of us than I could have even dreamed and the amenities they offered on the ship were breathtaking.
We had two small issues pop up with excursions (one was the fault of another guest) and they more than took care of us. And it was taken care of same day. Not one of those BS "I'll talk to the manager and get back to you eventually..."
We met the Cruise Director, the Captain, a whole host of characters, and made friends we would have never even dreamed to meet. I'll let pictures describe the trip for you guys. If you are thinking about taking your family on a cruise, I highly endorse Disney. Totally worth the extra money!
